BANDAR MELAKA, SEPT. 23 – The career talk on the opportunities offered in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields conducted by Technology Park Malaysia Corporation Sdn Bhd (TPM) is expected to draw overwhelming response from school students.
The TPM-conducted event is held today to 25 September from 10.00 am to 10.00 pm at Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall, in conjunction with Karnival Creativity and Science 4U, Melaka, organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
Aptly themed “A Career in STEM”, it will be delivered by TPM’s Corporate Communication official at SMK Seri Pengkalan in Alor Gajah on Friday, 23 September. Students are encouraged to take the opportunity at this briefing to explore the stimulating career field.
In an interview with TPM Senior Manager Corporate Communication, Puan Jamilah Taib said with the rapid social and economic development of Malaysia there is a compelling need for the nation to adopt the latest technologies and innovations to continuously build and sustain her overall national growth towards attaining the developed status by the year 2020.
She said the science, technology and innovation fields offered tremendous opportunities with a bright future for those wishing to pursue their careers in these fields.
“The government’s efforts in promoting the fields of science, technology and innovation are inevitable for Malaysia to fulfill her ambition of achieving not only the developed status, but also the need to build a knowledge-based economy that can help move the value chain towards being a sustainable high income nation in the future.
According to TPM’s Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Ir. Mohd Azman Shahidin, our country requires more scientist and technologist to push the nation into the highest of technology advancement era which contribute to our economic and societal wellbeing. The richer and well developed nations have a higher ratio of scientists. By 2020, we want to achieve a ratio of 70 scientists per 10,000 population.
Citing the important role of TPM as the driver of science, technology and innovation, Azman said the company has drawn researchers and industry from multiple growth sectors, possessing the necessary cutting-edge equipment and laboratories and providing professional commercialization support.
To encourage the interaction of the students to fulfill their ambitions, the TPM booth will invite them to have their complimentary photographs taken dressed in their respective career attire with their name and “playcard” in the science, technology and innovation cluster.
In addition, the students also will have an opportunity to win attractive prizes in a lucky draw for a career quiz focusing on the topic of science and technology.
The PSN Scifest’15 is expected to draw remarkably huge crowd of students, teachers and the invited guests. The participants will be treated to science demonstrations, technical sessions, scientific peripherals exhibition, latest innovations and science competitions among schools and many other activities.
TPM has been identified as the host for the implementation of capability building programs in Advanced Engineering, Science and Innovation Cluster to generate high income. Along with several local universities, it aims to create a network of collaboration among the private sector focused on research to transform advanced engineering and IT sectors, serving as an enabler for high-growth sectors and to drive innovation.
