TPM Empowers And Support Grassroots Entrepreneurship Via Virtual Technology

PEKAN, OCT. 16 – With the advent of technology and growing borderless world, Technology Park Malaysia Corporation Sdn Bhd (TPM) has embarked on an ambitious journey to continuously empower grassroots entrepreneurship through the virtual development of its Incubator Virtualization Model (IVM) programme.

The IVM, which was officially launched in April this year, marks yet another innovative initiative that allows would be and/or potential entrepreneurs the benefit of arming themselves with the right knowledge and appropriate tools from anywhere and at any time.

In efforts to heighten greater awareness of the IVM programme and its benefits to youths around the nation, especially among the Gen-Y, TPM is participating in the Kreativiti & Science 4U carnival organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).

The two-day Kreativiti & Science 4U carnival will be officially opened by MOSTI Minister Datuk Ewon Ebin, on Saturday, October 18.

According to TPM President/CEO Dato’ Ir. Haji Mohd Azman Shahidin, the principal aim of taking part in the carnival is to showcase TPM’s capabilities as well as to put up a creative and exciting display dwelling on the abundant opportunities available through science and technology.

“It is equally pertinent for us to create greater awareness of the importance of science and technology and its contributions to the development and enrichment of the creativity of students, youth and the community through various community grassroots programmes.

“The IVM programme, which is the first virtual business model of its kind in Malaysia, allows technopreneurs to garner advice of an incubator without being located at the incubator’s premise. In addition, they will be able to enjoy support services and facilities via online.

“Currently, we have received encouraging response from potential entrepreneurs and technopreneurs from throughout the country. It will certainly be an exciting catalyst to boost economic activities among the IT-savvy youths of today,” added Azman.

Among the activities to encourage the interaction of the students to fulfill their ambitions, the TPM booth have invited them to have their complimentary photographs taken dressed in their respective career attire with their name and “playcard” such as displayed in the science, technology and innovation cluster.

In addition, the students were also given an opportunity to win attractive prizes in a lucky draw for a career quiz focusing on the topic of science and technology.

In addition, visitors to the TPM booth had opportunity to gain first-hand insights about the services provided by the company towards the development and commercialization of new, innovative and technologically based ideas, products and services.

Azman said with the rapid social and economic development of Malaysia there is a compelling need for the nation to adopt the latest technologies and innovations to continuously build and sustain her overall national growth towards attaining the developed status by the year 2020.

With the Government’s strong economic transformation to achieve the developed status by 2020, Azman added that the field of science, technology and innovation offer abundant opportunities towards wealth creation.

“TPM’s initiatives aim to assist the MOSTI Commercialisation Year 2014 programme as well as to encourage existing and potential entrepreneurs in Pahang to take a proactive stance in moving forward towards entrerpreneurial development.

“The government’s strong efforts in promoting science, technology and innovation have paid dividends for Malaysia to fulfill her ambition of achieving not only the developed status, but also the need to build knowledge-based economy that can help move the value chain towards being a sustainable high income nation in the future,” explained Azman.

TPM has been identified as the host for the implementation of capability building programs in Advanced Engineering, Science and Innovation Cluster to generate high income. Along with several local universities, it aims to create a network of collaboration among the private sector focused on research to transform advanced engineering and IT sectors, serving as an enabler for high-growth sectors and to drive innovation.
