SME Cloud Sees Bullish Growth For M-Commerce Solutons, Targets 40% Share Of SME Sector

KUALA LUMPUR, JUNE 18 – Mobile applications platform developer, SME Cloud Sdn Bhd, is confident of the bullish growth of mobile commerce solutions as only about 10% of 600,000 small-and-medium enterprises in the country have adopted the Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions in their businesses.

Its chief executive officer, Encik Firdaus Ismail, said that his company is targeting a 40% market share of the Malaysian SME sector by 2017.

Speaking at the first series of a half-day seminar for the five-day “SME Cloud Computing Adoption Programme 2014” which is jointly organised with Technology Park Malaysia Corporation Sdn Bhd (TPM), Firdaus said m-commerce is still in its infancy stage although the smart phone penetration has reached 10 million Malaysians.

The five-day programme, which is part of the MOSTI Commercialisation Year 2014 initiative, is specially tailored to encourage small-and-medium enterprises to adopt the latest marketing and promotional mobile applications.

SME Cloud, an incubatee at TPM’s Innovation Incubation Centre, is working closely with the Multimedia Development Corporation Berhad (MDeC) under the auspices of the Digital Malaysia Shared Cloud Enterprise Service (SCES) programme and other agencies including Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad (PUNB).

Under the MDeC programme, SMEs are allowed to claim a maximum of RM750 for subscription of any Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions from approved Independent Software Vendor (ISV).

Firdaus said his company has projected to rake in revenue of RM1.1 million from the 1,500 SMEs expected to attend the five-day programme, while annual turnover for the current year is expected to reach RM1.8 million.

On the need for SMEs to adopt latest innovations and SaaS solutions, he said research has shown that 95% of smart phone users have searched for local information with 61% calling a business after searching and 59% visiting the business location. Of this, 90% acted within 24 hours.

“Another important factor is that 57% would not recommend a business with a bad mobile site, while 40% turned to a competitor’s site after a bad mobile experience. In addition, 23% adults have cursed at their phone when a site doesn’t work. These are vital indicators of the growing trend for SaaS solutions where SMEs can heighten awareness of their products and services using the latest technological innovations.

“With the growing affluence of the Malaysian population and higher penetration of smart phones, SMEs cannot afford to miss out on new technology or SaaS solutions to improve their efficiency and marketing promotional activities,” he added.

SME Cloud’s mobile apps platform is known as SMEAPPZ.COM and delivers unified visibility across Android and iOS (iPhone & iPad) mobile apps.
