Global Leadership Award 2014


KUALA LUMPUR, APRIL 28, 2014 – Datuk Azman Hj. Shahidin, President and CEO, Technology Park Malaysia Corporation Sdn Bhd (TPM) was bestowed the highest recognition of the Global Leadership Awards 2014 -“Executive Personality- National Technology and Innovation of the Year” held at Putrajaya, Selangor, last week. 

The award was in recognition of Azman’s significant contributions and dynamic leadership qualities in sustaining the development and growth of TPM’s excellent record as the leading and premier technology park in the country.

Since helming TPM in 2006, Azman has been instrumental in continuously ensuring that TPM maintained its market leadership. Managing the corporation with his broad engineering knowledge, experience and adopting a hands-on management approach, he consistently keeps abreast of latest global technologies and innovations that can help drive the country’s economic transformation. 

TPM has to date assisted more than 3,000 companies involving investments worth more than RM1.0 billion in terms of providing world class infrastructure and comprehensive eco-system. As of 2011, the total income generated by SMEs reached RM8.21 billion with a total export by SME’s amounted to RM574.5 million. In the same year, our GDP contribution comes to 1.2% or RM 6.46 billion.     

Azman graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Glasgow University, United Kingdom in 1984. His business and professional management skills were further amplified following his participation at the Harvard Business School Premier Business Management Program. He is a member of the Malaysian Board of Engineers, Malaysia Institution of Engineers and the National Business Incubation Association (NBIA). 

With more than 25 years of professional experience in handling various multi-billion Ringgit projects in infrastructure and urban development, property development and investment, technology management, vendor development programmes and projects in the oil and gas industry, Azman has developed strong technical, business and commercial acumen and has proven to be the main thrust driving the growth of TPM’s success.

As a testimony of his leadership excellence, he has been appointed by the Economic Planning Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department as the Chairman of the Sub-Committee of Bumiputera Commercial and Industrial Community (BCIC) for Biotechnology Instruments and Toolbox. 

Further, under his stewardship TPM has been admitted as a member of various local and international incubators association and bodies such as the International Association of Science Park (IASP), Asian Association of Business Park (AABI), National Incubator Network Association (NINA), Asia Pasific Incubation Network (APIN) and Association of University Research Park (AURP). 

Technology Park Malaysia Sdn Bhd, an agency of MOSTI, has an integrated infrastructure, facilities and support services to assist technopreneurs and entrepreneurs who are keen to commercialize their ideas in the four industry clusters, namely, ICT, Engineering, Biotechnology and Green Technology.
