Kelantan Sauce Maker Ventures Into New Coffee

KELANTAN SAUCE MAKER VENTURES INTO NEW COFEE

PRODUCT, HOPEFUL OF 20% BOOST IN REVENUE STREAM

KOTA BHARU, JAN. 20 – Kelantan-based sauce manufacturer, MH Mohd Industries Sdn Bhd, has ventured into the manufacturing of new coffee product and is hopeful the diversification will help boost the company’s revenue by at least 20 per cent this year to more than RM2.4 million.

MH Mohd Industries founder and chief executive officer, En. Muhamad Yussof, said he was optimistic that his newly formulated three-in-one tunjuk langit and gano coffee mixture marketed under the brand name of MH Mohd would form a new revenue stream for the company.

Instrumental in the formulation of the coffee, Muhamad claims that the tunjuk langit would be able to help control one’s sugar level in the bloodstream, while the gano provides added energy.

He said the combination of both herbal elements in the MH Mohd coffee provides supplementary strength to those who consume the product continuously. The three-in-one coffee combo are sold in sachets and all that is required is to add hot water, and no additional sugar is needed.

Targeting customers at eateries and restaurants and those aged 40 and above, Muhamad said both the male and female genders should benefit from his product.

“We have long-term plans to market our coffee at supermarkets and hypermarkets. This, however, is indeed challenging as retailers request successful track records of the product. Currently, our coffee is distributed through a distributor in Kelantan and we are also taking orders through mail and delivery via courier services. We believe we can achieve our long-term goal by working harder.” added Muhamad.

MH Mohd coffee is contract manufactured by TPM Biotech Sdn Bhd at its biotech centre in Raub, Pahang.

Prior to engaging the services of TPM Biotech last year, Muhamad said he had invested more than RM10,000 in product research and development, marketing surveys and was personally involved in the testing of the product.

Commending the satisfactory services and assistance rendered by TPM Biotech, Muhamad added that he was delighted to have been relieved of the heavy responsibility of ensuring consistent quality and production matters.

“Not many entrepreneurs and new start-ups realize the importance of research and development, manufacturing and production methods, quality controls and a host of other necessities that requires substantial capital outlay.

“The facilities and services provided at TPM Biotech Centre are exactly what entrepreneurs require to kick-start their business. TPM Biotech truly provides an excellent infrastructure and services for grassroots and rural entrepreneurial development in herbal products and biotechnology. With TPM Biotech, entrepreneurs have the benefit of not having to invest heavily in the production process,” he explained.

Having had a humble beginning with the start-up of his sauce manufacturing business 24 years ago from home, Muhamad expressed confidence that his new venture into coffee would be another success over the next three-five years with an annual growth of 20 per cent.

On his sauce business, Muhamad says his company currently produces 12 types of sauces ranging from soy sauce, tomato, pineapple, dipping sauce, to chilli, oyster sauce, black pepper sauce and vinegar marketed under the homegrown brand names of MH Mohd and Fatina.

Ranked among the top 10 sauce makers in the country, MH Mohd Industries produces about two million bottles of sauces annually. In the longer term, it aims to become the top five sauce producers.

Last year, the company achieved an annual growth of 10-20 per cent generating sales of about RM2 million. For this year, it hopes to maintain a growth rate of 10-20 per cent and aims to improve existing sauce products.

The production facility of MH Mohd Industries, covering an area of 11,000 sq. ft. is equipped with automated equipment and employs a workforce of 30 full time employees.

TPM Biotech facility is also a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) status facility. The GMP was accorded to TPM Biotech by the Ministry of Health’s National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau in 2006.

It has earned internationally recognized accreditations with ISO9001:2008 and IEC 17025 certifications as well as being approved halal by JAKIM. In addition, its functional food processing area is a HACCP accredited facility. All these accreditations and certifications make TPM Biotech as the preferred choice for entrepreneur products and services.

It was established in 2004 to assist local entrepreneurs by providing comprehensive scientific services and consultancy, in addition to making available an exhaustive herbal processing infrastructure intended for commercialization.

TPM Biotech is a subsidiary of Technology Park Malaysia Corporation Sdn Bhd, an agency under the purview of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

According to its President/Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Haji  Mohd Azman  Hj Shahidin, “It is satisfying to know that we are able to help our clients build their strategic blueprints that enable them to connect and operate pivotal aspects of their business more efficiently and economically. Technopreneurs’ satisfaction is the hallmark by which we measure our performance, and are held to the highest standards of quality by them – and within our stakeholders.

Our existence has enabled the technopreneurs to contribute significantly to the economy over the years by 1.2% to the nation’s GDP. We have created the masses of over 3,000 techno-companies that have benefited from TPM’s presence”.
