TPM-DAEGU TECHNOPARK COLLABORATION TO BOOST TRANSFER AND COMMERCIALISATION OF TECHNOLOGY

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 26 – Technology Park Malaysia Corporation Sdn Bhd (TPM) and Daegu Technopark of South Korea today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate through exchanges and cooperation towards contributing to both regional industry development and business growth through the transfer and commercialization of technology.

The collaborative effort is set to spur greater cooperation in mutually creating win-win smart partnerships between South Korean and Malaysian startups and enterprises. It would also provide both parties to jointly develop strategic co-incubator programmes and provide their incubatees the opportunity to explore new business and investments opportunities in the global arena.

The TPM-Daegu Technopark collaboration was initiated through PDS Consulting Sdn Bhd, a consulting firm that strongly promotes bilateral trade and investment opportunities between Malaysian and Korean companies.  

This is the second collaboration inked by TPM with South Korean organizations within two months following its previous agreement signing with the Seoul Business Agency last November.

At the MoU signing ceremony, Daegu Technopark was represented by its Director, Mr. Son Dae Sik, and Mr. Bae Jeong Woo, while TPM was represented by its General Manger Business Development and Corporate Services, En. Zulkifli Fitri Ismail.

The areas of cooperation covered the support and cooperation for commitment of smooth project execution to the transfer and commercialization of technology; collaborative efforts in the discovery and excavation of superior technology businesses demand; technical co-operation and effort in the former brokerage business and technology commercialization; sharing information about companies that wish to develop the transfer technology and post supports of comprehensive cooperation about investment and project management; and any other areas of cooperation in the field of science and technology to be mutually agreed upon by the parties.

TPM President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Ir. Mohd Azman Shahidin, hailed the collaboration as another major step forward for both companies to share, exchange and strengthen cooperation in exploring new technology and business opportunities with a common objective of improving the economic and social wellbeing of both South Korea and Malaysia. 

“In today’s rapidly developing borderless world, collaboration among like-minded entrepreneurs and technopreneurs is an excellent synergy to add value to new technology and commercialization of products and services.

“Bilateral trade ties and cooperation at international level will enable companies to explore, expand and boost their competitive levels to greater heights. This paradigm shift of smart partnerships will create a win-win opportunity to contribute significant to the growth of the regional industries,” added Azman.   

In efforts to expand its internationalization, TPM has to date established collaboraton with its peers in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and South Korea.

Technology Park Malaysia Sdn Bhd, an agency of MOSTI, has an integrated infrastructure, facilities and support services to assist technopreneurs and entrepreneurs who are keen to commercialize their ideas in the four industry clusters, namely, ICT, Engineering, Biotechnology and Green Technology.
