TPM Biotech Produce Herbal Biotech Entrepreneurs From Raub

KUALA LUMPUR, MARCH 31, 2011 – Teguh Herba Enterprise, a successful manufacturer of traditional herbal energy drink and herbal capsule health supplement, plans to expand its distribution network throughout the country in efforts to widen and increase awareness of its products.

With the planned expansion of its distribution network, the Kuantan-based enterprise, which owns Teguh Herba brand of herbal cocoa drink and herbal capsule health supplement, is confident that its locally concocted herbal products would offer value added health benefits to a wider section of the nation´;s population.

Currently, the Teguh Herba herbal cocoa energy drink and herbal capsule supplement is distributed mainly in Pahang directly to consumers and through online sales. The herbal capsule supplement is especially popular among customers in Pahang, particularly those suffering from diabetes.

Both products are also available through mail orders with consumers hailing from Kelantan, Johor, Perak, Kedah, Penang, Perlis and Melaka.

Formulation and contract manufacturing of the Teguh Herba products are undertaken by TPM Biotech Sdn Bhd at the TPM Biotech’s Herbal Biotech Centre in Raub, Pahang.

TPM Biotech is a wholly owned subsidiary of Technology Park Malaysia Corporation Sdn Bhd, an agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Teguh Herba Enterprise manager Khairul Redzuan bin Ibrahim said his company is also targeting to explore the markets in Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei.

The company´;s current monthly production of the herbal cocoa energy drink is 3,000 boxes, while that of herbal capsule supplement is 5,000 boxes. They are approved the Ministry of Health’s National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau and certified halal by JAKIM.

The herbal energy cocoa drink comes in 20 sachets each box and is priced at RM32.90. It contains extracts of two main herbal ingredients: Tongkat Ali and Lasianthus. Both these extracts are known for their anti-cancer and anti-malaria properties as well as their ability to reduce the risks of cardiovascular diseases, among others.

As for the herbal capsule supplement, which contains 100% herbal extracts, comes in a box of 30 capsules and is priced at RM48.00 per box.

Khairul Redzuan expressed confidence that with the planned growth, the potential for his company to expand its operations will be brighter.

“It is our vision to ensure our quality products, which are affordably priced, would be able to reach a wider audience of the general public nationwide, especially the poor and those suffering from diabetics.

“Although we have invested substantially in time and money for research and development (R&D) of both these products, we strongly believe in sharing the invaluable concoction developed by our founder through his earlier sufferings,” said Khairul.

On the company´;s future expansion plan, Khairul said plans are in the pipeline to diversify into new health herbal products for women to restore their health and vitality after their pregnancies.

“Like anybody else in the business community, we too face challenges, especially in the area of marketing where competition is getting stiffer each day. However, it will not deter us from going head on in tackling the issues as the potential for growth in the herbal industry remains tremendous.

“We wish to express our gratitude to TPM Herbal Biotech Centre in Raub, Pahang, for opening the doors and showing us the opportunities in our business venture. At the very least, the manufacturing aspects and maintaining the consistent quality of our products are taken care by TPM Biotech.

“Without the assistance TPM Biotech, I don’t think we can afford to invest in a manufacturing plant to start our business, let alone invest in R&D and the other necessary operations,” he added.

Teguh Herba´;s herbal cocoa energy drink and herbal capsule was initially formulated by the company´;s founder, Encik Ibrahim Manan, in 2008. Consuming the herbal concoction for a week then enabled Ibrahim to successfully reduce his blood sugar level to 6.4 from a high of 27.5 due to his diabetic conditions.

In wanting to share his formulation for diabetic treatment, Ibrahim and his family moved forward in turning his earlier adversity into a business opportunity by venturing into the traditional herbal treatment industry with the formation of Teguh Herba Enterprise.

TPM Biotech Sdn Bhd’s Herbal Biotech Centre in Raub, Pahang was recently awarded the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point Audit Standard (HACCP) certificate whereby food products manufactured by it can be exported internationally.

In addition, the TPM Biotech facility is also a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) status facility. The GMP was accorded to TPM Biotech by the Ministry of Health´;s National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau in 2006.
