TECHNOLOGY PARK MALAYSIA GIVES KUALA KANGSAR BOARDING SCHOOL AN ICT BOOST

KUALA KANGSAR, PERAK, JUNE 15 – Technology Park Malaysia Corporation Sdn Bhd (TPM) has today donated five sets of computer, a printer and a three-year internet service sponsorship worth more than RM20,000 to the all-female boarding school, Sekolah Menengah Raja Perempuan Kelsom Kuala Kangsar, to assist the latter in boosting its ICT knowledge and capability.

The donation of computer and internet sponsorship is a part of TPM’s corporate social responsibility programme in helping schools and society to gain a better understanding of the need to accelerate their knowledge in the rapidly developing world of information, communication and technology.

Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar Diah was present to witness the presentation of the ICT peripherals by TPM President and Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Hj. Ir Azman Shahidin presented to the principal of Sekolah Menengah Raja Perempuan Kelsom Kuala Kangsar, _______.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Abu Bakar said it now remained ever more important for Malaysian students to keep pace with the rapid development of science, technology and innovation in order to fully achieve knowledge-based economy within the next decade.

For Malaysia to attain success and a competitive edge in the global marketplace, he said there is a need to focus, encourage and empower the younger generation on the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.

“In the case of MOSTI, we have a roadmap to help pave the way for the development of technology and innovation to enhance technopreneurship and entrepreneurship as well as the nation’s social and economic transformation.

“In line with the Government’s aspirations, we are confident of commercialising 60 products and services annually from now until 2020. The transformation roadmap is expected to yield RM__ billion revenue to the national coffer,” added Dr. Abu Bakar.     

 

Meanwhile, TPM President and CEO, Dato’ Ir. Mohd Azman Haji Shahidin, said TPM, as the driver of technology and innovation, is expected to see at least a 10% increase in the number of new start-ups or incubatees annually for its incubator technopreneurship and entrepreneurship programmes for four main industry clusters of ICT, advanced engineering, biotechnology and green technology.

He added that since providing its incubator services in ___ (year), TPM has successfully assisted more than ____ entrepreneurs, biopreneurs and start-up companies from the ideation stage to their commercialisation. Of this, Bumiputera entrepreneurs and businesses accounted for more than __ per cent.

With the introduction of its virtual incubation services in 2014, which is the first and only such of its kind in the country, TPM has managed to increase the development of some ___ new start-ups last year. For the current year, the company is hopeful of achieving an incremental growth of __ per cent growth to ___ virtual incubatees by the end of this year.
